Breaking on the Fifth Wheel by Ben Nardolilli
I’m losing my mind, I wish it would go
already, it has the bags packed, the tickets bought,
it is straining against my skull
all day and night, and yet it won’t leave,
it can’t produce a good dream
or conjure up a decent memory for me,
and in between it fails at making new plans
I’ll go on fine, as a zombie of the philosophical
sort, at the command of voices
echoing through my now empty head,
no more dreams, no more memories to tempt
me into reliving the past,
I can’t wait for that kind of freedom to come,
it seems about as likely as any kind of revolution
