endless weekend by RC deWinter
now that every day's a weekend
with no place to go no people to see
only endless hours to fuss and adjust
perfectionists are the only happy people on the planet
now that every day's a weekend
there isn't a weed living
in all of green suburbia
perfectionists are the only people smiling
now that every day's a weekend
perfectionists are the only people
gainfully occupied every hour they're not sleeping
scraping and painting walls windowsills
doors and trim
the odd bookcase or table
none of which actually need scraping or repainting
shelving books according to height
or color
or whatever
on their knees in the kitchen
picking stray bits of who knows what
from seams and channels in the flooring
then finally getting around to organizing
the spice cabinet in alphabetical order
pawing through lifetime collections of screws
nuts bolts etc. to ensure
there's no unruly miscegenation happening
among those sneaky bits of metal
untangling garden netting
pesky balls of fishing line
the old clothesline rope
that oughta be good for something
now that every day's a weekend
perfectionists have endless hours
to remake everything into exactly what
and how it must be
i envy them
now that every day's a weekend
with no place to go no people to see
there's nothing to take me away from you
lounging in the corner
singing in the shower
coming up behind me to kiss my neck
with lips that haunt my dreams
even with every window open
your scent is everywhere
so
despite the small nothings with which i busy myself
without places to go and people to see
i can't get past the past
to imagine a future where
every day isn’t a weekend
and there are places to go people to see
